Feedback includes lights within the body that reveal correct chest compressions, blood circulation and the quality of technique. Only proper techniques will show success! It is now known that circulating blood to the brain improves a sudden cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival.

Through a partnership with Shaler Hampton EMS, Hampton Community Library, and Shaler North Hills Library you can now learn “HANDS-ONLY CPR” anytime using Big Red.

What is Hands-Only CPR?

It’s exactly what it states. You don’t perform mouth to mouth; you just use your hands to a specific rhythm. Practice builds confidence, and this is something the whole family can learn together in the comfort of your own home using the handouts provided or the QR code to watch the training video. Big Red will be available for loan to residents of Hampton and Shaler Area (each library will have its own manikin).

 

How do I borrow Big Red for my family, scout troop, or youth group?

Borrowing Guidelines

​(These guidelines are unique to Hampton Library; Shaler Library may have a different process)​

• Available to residents who live in the Hampton and Shaler area.

• Adults age 18+ may borrow Big Red for one week with a valid library card.

• Visit the Front Desk to sign up on the wait list.

• Big Red is not a requestable item and cannot be sent through the county delivery system.

• Big Red must be returned to the library from which it was borrowed.

• Renewals for one additional week may be available if no one is waiting. Please call the owning library to renew.

• The library reserves the right to charge overdue fees if Big Red is not returned by the due date. If damaged or not returned, patrons must pay the full cost to replace Big Red.
