Spark Bags: Rainbow Party

Hi Friends!

We've got a few more weeks worth of grab-n-go Spark Bags to share from the Hampton Community Library.

Each week, we have an activity prepared to *spark* curiosity. Explore physics, chemistry, art, music, yoga & more, then share what you created on the library Facebook or Instagram. This week we investigate colors, collaborate & use our imaginations to have a party with the rainbow!

Just Imagine...you live in a monochromatic world (mono=one, chroma=color). Can you still taste? Smell? Do you have feelings? Is it totally weird?

Task 1: Live monochromatic for a day by wearing, eating & using things that are just one color. Use the colored pieces of film in the Spark bag to look at things through a colorful lens. Try layering pieces to see what colors you get!

Task 2: Ask an adult if you can help prepare a snack or meal together. Plan together as you try to incorporate as many colors of the rainbow as you can. Yummeroo!

Wonder how some of this light stuff actually works? Goethe breaks it down, & amazingly, you can read the original over at Project Gutenberg (um, hello awesomeness that is open source & public domain!). Or you could ponder Newton's findings.

How about some stories? Today we feature Ms. Kathy from the Harris County Public Library:

Hope you enjoy this little spark...Toodleloo, Kangaroos!
